Deepest sympathy to the family on the loss of dear Joe which we have just read about tonight. Fondest memories of his visits together with Yvonne to our family home at the mill when there was much chat and laughter. Our father Barney and Joe often went on their day trips together around Northern Ireland to see things of shared interest. Fondest memories of a great person and a great character. May he rest in Peace.

I first met Joe & Yvonne in 2016 when I first started with Meals on Wheels. My father & I delivered to them for about 4 years & we always looked forward to seeing & chatting with them each week. They were our favourites and no one could even come close to second place. We loved Joe’s stories of his family & of course his train days. He told these with such passion & he truly loved life. You’re Mother was very witty & left us roaring with her one liners on some days! You are so fortunate to have had such loving & caring parents. They will be missed by so many. My heart felt condolences to you all.

Dear Murray Family,
My sincere sympathy to you all at this time of grief. The Murrays were a remarkable couple who contributed so much to our parish at St. Dunstan's. My mother and I have wonderful memories of Yvonne at CWL functions. She always spoke so lovingly of her family. Your dad was such a gentleman. I remember his lovely smile as he would greet folks on Sunday morning. The Irish Blessing says it all. God Bless, Margaret Gorman and Diane Flynn

Joe and Yvonne were great neighbours of ours for 50 years. They were always helpful if we needed anything. Don died in 2016 and Joe took me under his wing and was very good to me. It was comforting to know he was right next door. I appreciate his checking on me and we had many great visits. We talked about everything, especially about his boys and what they were up to, his railroad days and his love for Ireland. My sympathies go out to his boys and their families.
He is gone but not forgotten.

In 1968 my father had our family home built right next door to the Murray’s. They were our neighbours for 50 years. You couldn’t have asked for better neighbours. Joe was always ready to help anyone who needed it, even in his later years, snow-blowing or lawn mowing when he saw someone needing his help. Joe was so kind to my mother after Dad passed in 2016, fixing little things like her doorbell and keeping a watch on the house. Because Mom was living there alone it was reassuring to us that he frequently checked in on her. When visiting Mom, from time to time I would talk with Joe about the past. It was amazing how he remembered names and dates, like the names of the father and son who built our house. My last memory of one of these conversations was in the spring of 2018 when Mom put the house up for sale and I was sprucing up the gardens around the house. Joe and I had a wonderfully nostalgic chat while I spread mulch on the backyard beds and he painted his fence! He was 95 then and still maintaining his property. My condolences to all the family on your loss of such an amazing man.

Joe was a great guy, always accommodating and always pleasant. As a journalist, I would knock on Joe’s door for his opinion on past and current events. He often called to tell me about the latest news on Chris. He was proud father who loved all his children. You will be missed, old friend. Rest in peace and know you will not be forgotten.

Joe was a good friend and welcoming neighbour on Montgomery St. He would welcome me to the garden or the house and his conversations on Ireland, railway days, meeting and marrying Yvonne and life since then were always interesting. He was very proud of his sons, as shown by the photographs on the wall. Friendship continued by phone after he moved to Orchard View. He will be remembered with love and good memories. Sheila Andrew

My deepest sympathies to the family on the passing of Joe. My mother, Frances (Bourque) LeBlanc, knew Joe and Yvonne and often spoke of them. I believe she rented a room from them in Moncton when she was young. He must have been working for CNR at that time. About 7 years ago, when my father passed away (my mother died much earlier), Joe made contact and invited me to his house on Montgomery St. so he could give me a picture of my mother when she was young. We spent the afternoon and evening together and he told me all about his career and showed me his amazing collection of electrical equipment from the railroad. Being an electrical engineer and collector of that sort of thing myself, I very much enjoyed my visit and tour of his collection. I'm happy he found a good home for his collection. I only wish I had kept up contact with him as he was such an interesting fellow. RIP Joe.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of you father. Dad (Greg)was sorry to hear the news. He was glad he was able to see and speak with Joe earlier this year and spoke of his visit to all of us. Dad is in hospice now so is unable to attend the service for Uncle Joe.
Myself I was fortunate to have made a trip to Ireland this past July and visited the bar in Magherafelt in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland where it all began for his family.
I was surprised to see a newspaper clipping on the wall, a memento of Joe's visits over the years as told to me by John Bryson the current owner. He graciously allowed me to pull a pint in honor of the Murray clan. He spoke warmly of his connection to Joe. I am sure he too will be sad to hear of Joe's passing.
Sincerely Laura Copeland for Greg Murphy and family

What one can say about Joe Murray would full a book. I met Joe during his years at the Experimental Station in Fredericton. I was involved in boiler service work and was called upon from time to time to solve boiler issues at the station. I got to know Joe well and would try to be at the station during lunch time to share a sandwich and conversation with Joe. Joe's knowledge of equipment involved in the production of steam was vast and endless. Joe loved to share his knowledge and life experiences with those who would lend an ear. After Joe retired from the experimental station, I had a great opportunity to learn the trade as one might say from this gifted individual. Joe and I worked for a local boiler service firm and traveled the roads to get boilers up and running again. Joe knew his stuff and was not afraid to pitch in and get his hands dirty as well as offering helpful advice. Joe loved his years with the railroad and had many an interesting railroad story to tell myself and others with an interest in the railroad. Joe never stopped learning and enjoyed every moment out servicing boiler and heating equipment. Joe will be missed by those fortunate enough to have cherished him as a friend, father, grand dad and relative. Joe was there when you needed him with helpful advice and a working hand.
