Obituary of Donald Kenneth McDonald
It is with sadness that the family of Donald McDonald announce his unexpected passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at the age of 77. Born in Chatham, NB, on November 1, 1942, he was the husband of Mary (Gallagher) McDonald of Limekiln, NB.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Don leaves behind his 4 sons, Ken (Julie), Pat (Crystal Fitzherbert), Mike, and Gordon (Laura); grandchildren, Jonathan, Charlize, Lauren, Emma, Michael, Grace, Evan, Mitchell, William, and Owen; and a large extended family. Don was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Marjorie (Strong) McDonald; granddaughter, Allanna.
In his younger years, Don was an avid hunter, and fisherman. He lived a full and happy life from growing up in Hartland, NB, to attending university, and raising his 4 sons. Of all the things that he was so brilliant at throughout his life, the 3 things he excelled at most were being a dedicated husband, a hero to his children, and being Grandpa to his grandchildren.
Don’s family wish to acknowledge and thank Stanley ambulance paramedics Evan Tozer and his partner as well as all the staff of the DECH Emergency Department, with great appreciation for Dr. Shannon McCarter, Cy Pederson and the nurses for their outstanding professionalism, compassion, care and support.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A private memorial service for family and invited guests will be held at a later time. For those who wish, donations in Don’s memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, the Just Friends Food Bank in Stanley, or Scouts Canada – Camp Yoho.
