Obituary of Concetta Poniatowski

Concetta (Lipari) Poniatowski, known as Cettina or Nonna to family and friends, passed away peacefully in her home on December 20,2022 in her 87th year. 

 

Concetta was born on November 1, 1935, to Carlo and Iole (Campo) Lipari of Castel di Lucio in Santo Stefano di Camastra, Sicily, Italy.  In 1960, Concetta moved to Halifax, Yorkshire, England where she married Piotr “John” Poniatowski and had two daughters, Barbara and Wanda. She immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1975 settling in Guelph Ontario for 42 years before moving to Fredericton, NB in 2017.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Bob), and grandson Derek of Waterloo, ON, as well as Wanda (Jim) and grandsons Zach and Nick of Fredericton NB. 

 

Concetta is lovingly remembered by her brother Francesco “Ciccio” Napoli (Maria); nephews, Guido and Dario; sister Maria (Franco); nieces Ivana (Gianluca) and Monica (Giuseppe) Gagliano; brother Alvise Lipari (Rosetta); nieces Carla (Nino) and Valentina (Angelo); cousin Marisa Smedile, and daughter Anna. 

 

She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years Piotr “John” Poniatowski and brother Carlo Lipari. 

 

A special thanks to Dr. Gordon McDonald for his compassion and kindness, his wife Laura McDonald for her immense support and the extra mural nurses for their care and dedication, in particular Stephanie who had a special connection to Nonna. 

 

A funeral service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 11am. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of her late husband, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

 

Her influence was and will continue to be significant, more so than she could ever know.
