Obituary of Yarmati Persaud Gopeechan

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Yarmati Persaud Gopeechan, also known as “Baby”, announces her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at the age of 84. From New Amsterdam, Berbice, Guyana, South America, she was born on March 21, 1938, and was the wife of the late Dharam Deo “Fuley” Gopeechan.

Yarmati will be missed by her children, Sandra and spouse Harry, Camille and spouse Reuben, Alston and spouse Nalini (all of Fredericton, New Brunswick), Ronald and spouse Rehanna, Fenton and spouse Karen, Lyttleton and spouse Sandra, Ashton and spouse Kamini (all of Toronto, Ontario), and Nathalie and spouse Vijai of Texas, USA; 22 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a large extended family.

Yarmati enjoyed attending church and listening to gospel music. She also spent much time in prayer, something which she loved to do. Her family and friends were very dear to her, she enjoyed spending time and cooking for them.

A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Smythe Street Church on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 am, with Pastor Verner Drost officiating. Interment will take place in the spring.
