Obituary of Becky Mermichel

Rebecca Mermichel’s (nee Lafford) energy was released peacefully on February 24, 2023, while she slept in loving comfort at Fredericton Hospice under the care of her Earth angels, including her sister Melissa who was by her side throughout her stay. Much gratitude to her carers; doctors, nurses, and Amanda, with whom she had a special and close relationship and who did so much for her while still here.

 

Becky was full of love, kindness, and humour – her peals of laughter from a good, sometimes off-colour, joke or ditty were legendary as was her enthusiastic shout from a Bingo or Yahtzee win. She was the life of many a gathering, be it singing in the choir, hugging a loved one or petting a fur baby. She was her authentic self all the time, generous beyond measure, literally giving any and all that she could to ease another’s burden.

 

Becky will be dearly missed by her family, including her sisters, Caroline (Paul) and Melissa (Dan) and their families; children, Kate, Tom, and Leigh (Ryan); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and her stepchildren and their families. 

 

Predeceased by her mother and father, Doreen and Tom, Rebecca’s spirit will be taking comfort in theirs now. She is also predeceased by her first husband, Tom Rogers, and her second husband, John Mermichel, who wisely proposed while they were already engaged in her favorite pastime of fishing.

 

Above all, Becky was a great friend, as her closest and dearest Bob Macintosh well knows. Her friends from throughout her life, cast around the world, were always connected with love and care. Her spirit lives on in all of us.

 

In keeping with the family's wishes, there will be no service or visitation. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House or the Fredericton SPCA.
