Obituary of Lawrence Arnold Bavis
With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Lawrence (Larry/Laurie) Bavis, of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Nelma (Johnston) Bavis on October 11 at Thomas Hall, Shannex. Born on February 26, 1927, in Napadogan, NB, he was a son of the late Harry and Mary (Donnelly) Bavis of Cross Creek, NB.
Larry’s lifetime employment was with the Canadian National Railway starting at the Napadogan station and retiring from the CN Express Fredericton. Larry had a quiet nature and he could surprise you with his quick wit. He entertained many with his stories of working on the Canadian National Railway, along with the many hunting and fishing adventures; like the big salmon that got away. He spent many hours working on his hobby of fly tying for his own fishing pleasure, and also for sale to fishing tackle shops on the Miramichi. His love of gospel and country music was evident on many a visit when you walked in and heard it being played.
He is survived by two sons, Jack Bavis (Carol) of Moncton and Michael Bavis (Yvette) of Halifax; daughter Cathy Betts (James) of Fredericton; 4 grandchildren, Amanda, Kelly, Jonathan and Courtney; 4 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ben, Ryker and Austin; brothers, Murray Bavis (Kathy), Keith Bavis (June), Reginald Bavis, Gerald Bavis (Katherine), Kirk Bavis (Judy) and Brian Bavis (Maureen); a sister Betty Boudreau, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Lawrence was predeceased by a brother Edward Bavis; sisters Muriel Raymond and Annette Wilson.
Special thanks and appreciation to: Syd and Shirley Nason; the late Florence Currie; Rainsford Lane neighbours; PSW Greta O’Donnell (her Pappy), home care workers Rosa and Abby from Bayshore; Extramural; Thomas Hall, Shannex.
Due to COVID a private graveside service will be held with Rev. Joe Beesley officiating.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or a charity of your choice.
