Obituary of Brian Maurice Steeves
Brian Maurice Steeves, age 77, of Fredericton passed away on April 8th 2023 at the DECH after an unexpected brief illness.
Brian is survived by his wife of 43 years Sheila Cameron, his older brother Eric and family, his sister-in-law Jean Kelly, brothers-in law Bruce and Jim Cameron, and their families.
Brian was born in Saint John, and after graduating from UNB, he had a long career at the NB Department of Finance, eventually rising to the position of Secretary of the Lotteries Commission.
In his retirement Brian was active in different areas of community service: Meals on Wheels, the SPCA, Habitat for Humanity and initiating the Go-Golf program. He also enjoyed woodworking in his shop making items for his friends, as well as time spent skiing and on the golf course. He loved discussing contemporary political issues at length, and everyone he met was a potential friend. He was also very well read, and interested in a wide range of topics.
As per Brian’s wishes, his family and friends are holding a Celebration of Life ceremony in lieu of a traditional funeral. A Celebration of Brain’s Life will be held in the Greenbrier Room at Kingswood Lodge, 31 Kingswood Park, Hanwell, Fredericton, NB, on June 16th, 2023, from 1 – 5 pm. We invite you to join us at one of his favorite venues to share a funny story or reminisce about a time shared with Brian, and raise a glass in a final toast in his honour, TO BRIAN!!!
Anyone wishing to make a donation in Brian’s memory is asked to consider contributing to the Fredericton SPCA, Fredericton Homeless Shelter, or Canadian Blood Services.
