Obituary of George Wilfred Cross
It is with sadness we announce the passing of George Wilfred Cross on April 25, 2023, at Hospice House Fredericton. Born on December 30, 1927, he was the son of the late George and Dorothea (Bliss) Cross, and the beloved spouse of Barbara Catherine (West) Cross.
George was quite a funny and loving person, who loved to play jokes on those around him. His main passions were singing, painting and sketching. He enjoyed these passions, and could often be found at an Art exhibit admiring the work, or sketching the scenery of what was around him. George’s first and only career was Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. This career allowed him to travel to more, or visit, all over Canada. Not long after his retirement in 1982, George felt the need to further his education, and enrolled into UNB. In 1994, he completed his degree with honours in History.
He is survived by his spouse, Barbara Cross; children, James Cross of Victoria, BC, Peter Cross (Sylvia) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL and Janet Cross of Victoria, BC; step-children, Peter Chapman of Hammonds Plains, NS, and Thomas Chapman of Rothesay, NB; grandchildren, Brian Cross, Sarah Gait, Theresa Richter, Matheson Cross, and Jessie-Lynn Cross; step grandchildren, Max Chapman, Alexandra Chapman, William Chapman, Georgia Chapman, and Grace Chapman; great grandchildren, Evan and Leo; brother, David Cross (Brenda) of Saskatoon, SK; sister- in-law Dale Cross, as well as many nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a brother, Walter Cross, and a brother, Bliss Cross (Shirley).
A celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Hospice House Fredericton, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
