Dear Tracey
So sad to hear Carla is no longer with you. I enjoyed so much meeting you together in Scotland. And China in 1985 wouldn't have been the same without her wry sense of humour. Big hugs and love ingrid

I was sad to hear of Carla's passing. She was a role model of professionalism and integrity at ELP. I remember that in one dry summer, she allowed us to plunder her flower garden to decorate for the final banquet. She was a great hostess, I recall a really fun Trivial Pursuit party at her home.

Dear Tracey,
I remember meeting Carla when I first moved to Fredericton and started working at ELP during the summer of 1992. I was immediately drawn to her personality and appreciated her directness, honesty and sense of humour. She was patient with me when we played tennis at Wilmot Park (not sure how many games we actually played) and at work, I relished her no nonsense approach and words of wisdom.
Carla was always interested in hearing about the activities of my four children and would shake her head and chuckle thinking about how busy it must be to have so many children. Then Carla met you and she was blessed with her own family of four children - and I have to say that I laughed when she told me! And the love she had for all of you was so obvious when she shared her own stories with me. Corey and I enjoyed running into the both of you at the market and catching up on the latest family news.
Carla was so strong and such a loving person, I know she will be greatly missed. Please know that you, Kelly, Jeremy, Ted and Hilary are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Tracey, to you and to Kelly, Jeremy, Ted and Hillary- my deepest sympathies on the loss of the incomparable Carla!
Carla was one of the truest and finest friends a person could have, non-intrusive, steadfast when needed, clear and unsentimental but yet loving and caring. And hilarious! I don't know how she managed all she did, but I was very, very grateful to know her. I know she loved all of you very, very much. And she will love that new little grandson from a distance. She will be deeply missed and cherished by many.
May she finally rest in peace. With much love and hugs, Gayle MacDonald.

Dear Tracy and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of such a special person. Although I did not have the pleasure of knowing Carla for very long, the time having her as a neighbour was exceptional. She took such pride in her garden and was generous in sharing gardening tips. She spoke fondly of all the children and I’m sure she will be sorely missed.

My sincere condolences to you Tracy and your family. Her passing came as a chock to me, even though I know she has been ill for a while. I will miss seeing her in the movies, even though we did not have much of an opportunity for that during the past two years. I will remember her generosity and kind spirit.

“Dear Tracey and Family,
Carla meant so much to me in formative years as I began work at UNB with her. Her compassionate, pragmatic take on life always served to teach me good lessons of living. I loved working with her and celebrating life with her. Although seeing Carla only sporadically as the years have passed, I will always cherish her memory, her good cheer, her hospitality and the beautiful soul she is.
Sending all of you my heartfelt hugs & love in this time of farewells.
Tim McFarland”

I was privileged and honoured to work with Carla from when I was a teenager until I graduated university. From 1994 - 2002 I spent my summers and eventually much of my time year round working at the English Language Programme. Lots of time spent chatting with her, and what I would figure out much later, learning. She taught me some basics like how to actually make coffee but also what working hard meant and not simply accept something being “done enough”. Early in my time with ELP, I remember preparing something, not sure exactly these many years later, for a group activity, and I said to her, “I think I am done”. She simply replied, “if you think so, just remember people have spent time and money to be here, up to you.”
At the time I felt it was harsh but of course I also knew she was right. Simple and to the point.
I have actually applied this way of thinking and managing people and outcomes in my career and life since. Just one of the many thoughtful pieces of guidance I received from Carla.
My condolences to her entire family.
Best wishes.
Ryan

Tracey, I met Carla through the Fredericton Multicultural Associations Language Program. Over many years she never forgot my name and we could easily get into a conversation, she was easy to like. It is a big loss for you and a loss for all of us. The world needs more like her.

I didn't know Carla well -- played some kitchen bridge and a round of golf but "strongest person on the planet with the biggest heart" pretty well sums up the Carla I knew. Although I didn't see her often of late, she was one of my favourite human beings. The planet seems lesser now for her loss.

A loving, caring fiend, an admired and trusted colleague with true strength of character. I loved your sometimes cutting, but always supportive sense of humour. I will always hold dear my memories of you, especially our great “Grand Falls to Fredericton” canoe trip. I’ll miss you Carla, but I know you’ll always be ‘just a thought away’ – Terry

Tracey, so sorry to hear of Carla’s passing. She had overcome cancer so many times that it seems impossible she is now gone. Although we didn’t see each other often, I always enjoyed any conversation I had with Carla. I know you will have many wonderful memories of your years together and trust they will bring you comfort as you make this transition to life without her physically beside you.

I worked closely with Carla for many years at the English Language Programme. In that time I learned a lot from her about how to build strong relationships with colleagues and partners from around the world. She was a great storyteller. I miss hearing about all of her adventures, whether it was about an international destination, a tennis match or the latest prize she had won after a night of playing bridge. She will be missed by many. My sincerest condolences to Tracey, Kelly, Jeremy, Ted, Hilary and all of her dear family and friends.
