Obituary of Ronald Joseph Roy

Ronald Joseph Roy (Ron) passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on April 8, 2023 at the Vernon Hospice after a short battle with cancer.

Ron was born on December 22, 1945 in Newcastle, New Brunswick to Edgar and Hedwidge Roy (Memere and Pepere). He was the second of six children. His stories often recounted tales of childhood mischief with his siblings Yoland, Raymond, Thelma, Annette and Paul.

His early years were spent battling Tuberculosis, which had him living in hospital, away from the family home. Ron went on to live a full and energetic life after this time, earning a degree in Economics from the University of New Brunswick, where he met his wife and best friend, Linda Murphy.

Ron and Linda moved to Montreal in 1973, and welcomed their first child, Catherine, in 1974, only a few months before settling further West in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Here, they welcomed their second child, Gregory (Greg), built their first house and where Ron created a successful accounting business with his partners.

In 2005, Ron and Linda retired to Vernon, BC, where they could spend their days doing all the things Ron loved to do best: skiing, biking, boating, kayaking, swimming. They travelled the world in their life together, and in retirement, visiting places like: New Zealand, China, Egypt, and much of Europe.

Ron's last years were spent caring for his beloved Linda in her fight with Alzheimers.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Linda Roy, his children Greg and Cathy (spouses Carly and William), and his grandchildren, Rowan, Gavin, Max and Sam Roy, who were his pride and joy, as well as his siblings, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

We offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who provided support for us during this difficult time. We are truly grateful for the kindness and generosity of our friends, family and community during this time.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 2:00pm at Seasons, Vernon, BC. For those unable to attend, a recording is available at the following address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9uERnr0-do

Ron loved music, skiing, biking, boating and mostly, being with his family and friends. As a tribute to Ron, the family asks everyone to take a minute to listen to their favourite song, jump into a cool lake or do something outside that brings joy and take a minute to think of Ron.
