Obituary of Eleanor Margaret Sutherland

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Margaret (Henderson) Sutherland on July 15^th, 2023, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Westville, NS, on October 20^th, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Olive (Dunn) and Charles Henderson.

Eleanor was a devoted mother and spouse to her beloved family, and worked as a property manager at Levine Property Management LTD. After her children became adults and her retirement, Eleanor and her husband George MacLeod Sutherland would travel and spend their winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. She also enjoyed a good game of bridge, and playing shuffleboard, which showed in her multitude of trophies from various shuffleboard tournaments.   

She is survived by her sons, Calvin Sutherland of Fredericton, NB, and Michael Sutherland (Patti) of Belle River, ON; granddaughters, Alexis Sutherland of Edmonton, AB, and Jade Sutherland of Belle River, ON; sister, Joan Richters of Windsor, ON, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, George Sutherland (2001); sons, David Sutherland (2007), and Dr. George Sutherland (2011), as well as her partner, Dan Ingham (2015).

By Eleanor’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 1pm, with Rev. Mary Tingley officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Fredericton SPCA.
