Obituary of Barbara Eveline Rowan
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara “Barb” Eveline (Goodine) Rowan on July 29th, 2023, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born on January 24th, 1931, in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (O’Hara) Goodine, and the beloved spouse of the late William “Bill” Rowan.
Barb worked for CMHC (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation) and took an early retirement. During her retirement, Barb and Bill enjoyed travelling, which included many trips overseas, cruises, and even spending a couple of winters in Florida. Also, Barb found herself getting involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program after her retirement, which lead her to meeting Prince Andrew.
Always a generous and kind-hearted person, Barb would donate what she could to charities, groups and people, when she could. She was a founding member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and was very involved with their CWL. She received her 40-year pin from the CWL. She was also a member of the Fredericton Garrison Club.
Barb is survived by her sons, Greg (Alice) and John Rowan (Shirley); 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Ronald Goodine; sister Loretta Washburn, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and spouse, Barb was predeceased by her daughter, Gracie Rowan; sisters Doris, Thelma, and Phyllis, as well as a brother, Raymond.
