Obituary of Molly Demma

Molly passed away peacefully at Hospice on October 11, 2023 surrounded by family, after sticking it to breast cancer for as long as she could.

Molly’s life was full of joys-family, friends, work, volunteering and gin. She was a river lover, avid exclamation mark user and two apples tall.

Molly grew up in Fredericton until 1984, when her family moved to White Rock, British Columbia. Molly’s heart was forever split in two over her love and pride of her home towns and the people in them.

She returned to Fredericton in the mid 90’s for school at UNB. A few years later she met Pascal from Moncton at Picaroons and they decided to settle in Fredericton.

Pascal and Molly have two beautiful and amazing children, Sam and Sophie. They lived in a few different houses around town and so have the pleasure in their life of many dear neighbours turned friends.

Although Molly’s greatest love is her family, her work came a pretty close second. She spent her career on the Wolastoq; first at Ducks Unlimited Canada and since 2004, she had been so lucky to be the Executive Director of The St. John River Society. Molly extends thanks and love to everyone she had the pleasure of working with over the years, with an extra big thanks to the Board and to her work husband Simon Mitchell. Molly was proud to be a river sister and sends love and gratitude to her fellow river sisters all across the country.

Molly is survived by her beloved husband, Pascal Landry, their amazing kids Sam and Sophie, her parents Thomas Demma and Dimity Hammon, her brother Josh Demma, her mother-in-law Josette Gaudet, brothers-in-law Vincent and Jacques Landry, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Molly was very lucky to be close to her godparents, Deborah Johnston and Peter Forbes and by way, had a whole extended family in Fredericton and loved them all.

Molly also wanted to mention her love for her very dear friends Jeni, Yasemin, Kim, Cindy, Kate, Book Club and the neighbourhood crew.

Molly volunteered as much as she could in her community and would tell you to always please try to give back any way you can and strengthen everyone’s sense of place. :)

Many thanks to the medical team, the wonderful people at Hospice Fredericton and to those who cared for and supported Molly and her family throughout the course of this illness.

In Molly’s spirit please give generously to a charitable organisation of your choice such as the Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice Fredericton or The St. John River Society. In the end, it’s important to give, just like Molly, with your time or your money.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm.
