Obituary of Vittala Bittira
It is with great sadness that the family of Vittala Bittira, 80, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, sadly announces his passing on November 4, 2023.
Born on April 8, 1943, to Aiyappa and Gangamma Bittira in Polibetta, India. Vittala was a mechanical engineer for over 52 years, who served as a loyal employee at the New Brunswick Power Commission for over 35 years. He had an incredible work ethic, not taking a single day of sick leave during his entire career.
In 1971, Vittala met Gangu Appaiah, and they wed in 1972, going on to have 2 children, Bindu Bittira and Kaveri Braid. He is survived by his wife Gangu, his daughters Bindu and Kaveri, sons-in-law Derek MacDonald and Christian Braid, and 4 grandchildren Jaya MacDonald, Nadia MacDonald, Aiden Braid and Ashlyn Braid.
He was known in the community as a gentle giant, with a soft- spoken personality and endearing smile. He was a man of few words, whose entire existence revolved around his love for his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing badminton, was an avid jogger and enjoyed daily walks on the trails with his wife.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Stan Cassidy Centre, and the palliative care team at the Chalmers hospital. A special note of thanks to the extramural team who followed him very closely in the last few months until he was transitioned to the Hospice. The compassionate care he received there over the last 6 weeks will not be forgotten by his family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam’s Funeral Home. Services will be held privately at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Society of Canada or Hospice Fredericton.
