Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Eleanor Scovil
Elizabeth “Betty” Scovil passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on October 7, 1926 to the late Junius and Eleanor (Mighton) Jonsson.
Remaining to love and cherish her memory are her four daughters Mary Waterous of Nassau, Jean Watson (Ron) of Sherwood Park, Joan Florean (Luigi) of Daysland and Catherine Scovil (Denis Landreville) of Ottawa; her grandchildren Max and Elizabeth Waterous, Christopher (Ally) and Adrianne Watson, Leah Bowie (Adam) and Justin Florean and Madeleine Landreville; her great grandchildren William, Matthew, Anna and Gabriel Bowie; her brother-in-law Jim Scovil (Ewina), sisters-in-law Georgie Webb and Pauline Cosgrove along with many close nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Raymond; her sister Margaret Bellis (Art) and brothers Ragnar Jonsson (Helen) and Douglas Jonsson (Audrey).
Growing up in Prince Albert, Elizabeth was the youngest of four children. She attended the University of Saskatchewan completing her degree in 1948 in Household Science. Following graduation, she moved to Fredericton accepting a position as Home Economist with the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture where she fully embraced her new life in the province.
Elizabeth was active and engaged in her community. At Christ Church (Parish) Church she served on Vestry, was a member of the Anglican Church Women and took on leadership roles in the Diocese on Diocesan Council and the Board of Camp Medley. She was a dedicated member of the Home Economics Association and Grandmothers for Grandmothers.
Elizabeth was a woman of many and varied interests from curling, golfing and gardening to playing bridge and reading. She remained forward-thinking, curious and always kept pace with the latest technology.
Elizabeth took on life with kindness and grace, patience and tolerance. A most wonderful mother, neighbour and friend.
Visitation will be held at Christ Church (Parish) Church on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The memorial service will take place at Christ Church (Parish) Church the following day on November 16th at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Canon Wandlyn Snelgrove will officiate.
