I met George when I came to UNB on exchange as a trainee teacher in 1990. Although I was a student and he was a Professor we struck up a great friendship and met up again the following year in England. We lost touch and today when I was looking through some old things I came across some letters from him and decided to do a google search. I am so sorry that I just missed him. Please may I send my condolences, he was a great man who left a lasting impression on many people.

I first met George when he was teaching a UNB course on writing. That course challenged me to be a better teacher of writing. I also had the privilege of participating in the Walsall teacher exchange project under George's leadership. We had fun and learned lots too. I am grateful for George's impact on my life. I offer my sincerest condolences to all his family. My prayers will be for God's peace and comfort for each of you!

Just today learned of George's passing and offer my most sincere condolences to his family, friends and associates. I grew up in "The Tank" and I think I spent more time with the Haley's than I did with my own siblings. I have so many treasured memories of those days and reflect on them quite often . The last time I saw George was in 1955 when I left to enlist in the Army - at that time I turned over my most valued possession to him - my "very special" baseball glove! Most impressed, but not surprised, by George's professional career, even as a kid, he had that air of someone who was going to excel at any and all undertakings. RIP George , you've earned it after a life well lived. Special thoughts go out to George's siblings - you will be jremembered in my prayers

I started the new B.Ed program at UNB as a student the same year George started as a prof. He was a mentor and touchstone throughout my four years there and I am honoured to have been his student. Undergrad years make a big impression on one's life, and George is a big part of the impression those four years had on me. My condolences to the family on his passing.

Hello my dearest friend! Sorry for being late but it is taking awhile to accept the loss. For me it is hard to believe it because I feel you are now and will be living for ever in my heart.Thank you for being my friend and helping me to achieve my goals in life. I still remember those long talks and arguments when travelling within Canada, USA or Mexico. Marion, Hayden and you change indeed my life for good. When you have some free time, please, let me know if your hypothesis is probed ("God is a woman"). No rush! You might also remember that most Mexicans think "Death is not a good bye but only change in location"; however, I do not really agree right now because hurts. Joanne, Tobin and Family, please accept my sincerest condolences. Pedro.

Dear Joanne, Ann and I are so sorry to hear of George's passing. We so enjoyed chatting with him during our choir practice at the Rogue. The conversations were always so interesting, from his education work around the world to the origins of virtually any war in the world, and everything in between. None were more stimulating than the ones about our shared passion, the sport of baseball. George certainly understood the final points of the game better than most lovers of the game. Our heartfelt condolences. Ann Kelly and Mike Dollimore

Friends are angels that lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. There are no words to adequately express his guidance and support over 50 years of my life. In many ways George shaped me by giving me courage in times of uncertainty. Rest In Peace. Mar
