Obituary of Phyllis Anne Daigle

Phyllis Anne Daigle died peacefully on December 30, 2023 at Thomas Hall in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Phyllis was born on November 14, 1932 in Meteghan River, Nova Scotia, the youngest daughter of Elie and Mabel Comeau and baby sister to Jacqueline and Emily. After graduating from high school in Digby Phyllis moved to Moncton, New Brunswick to train as a registered nurse at Hotel-Dieu de L’ Assomption, graduating in 1954. While training in Moncton, Phyllis met and fell in love with her future husband Joseph Theodore Daigle. They were married on October 5, 1957 in Le Pas, Manitoba, eventually moving back to the Maritimes with their young family and settling in Fredericton where Ted had accepted a position as professor at Saint Thomas University.

Phyllis was a loving wife and mother and in partnership with Ted devoted her life to the care and support of their four children.

After Ted’s death in 1983 Phyllis returned to work as an RN eventually transitioning to work until her retirement as a communications clerk at the Chalmers Hospital. Phyllis was also active as a volunteer throughout her life and was a devoted member of Saint Dunstan’s Church.

Phyllis is survived by her children and their spouses John (Stacey), Paul (David), Jacqueline (Gordie) and Michelle (Don), as well as her beloved grandchildren and their spouses and partners, Ryan (Laura), Lindsay (Johnathon), Ted (Chelsea), Marc (Jessi), Adrianne (Mo), Jacob (Marta), Bernadette (Nick) and a growing number of great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Catherine Gray and sister-in-law Sophie and her husband Généreux Leblanc. Phyllis also leaves behind her Comeau cousins from Nova Scotia’s French Shore and beyond as well as nieces and nephews on both sides of her family.

Phyllis’s family would like to thank all at Thomas Hall for helping to make the last days of Phyllis Anne’s long and happy life a quiet and peaceful journey, both for her and her loved ones.

Following Phyllis’s wishes there will be no visitation and a private family graveside service will take place at a later date. Donations in Phyllis’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Arthritis Society Canada would be gratefully appreciated.
