Obituary of Marjory Etta Rattray

It is with sadness that the family of Marjory Rattray announces her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the age of 77. Born in Fredericton on July 5, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Basil and Annie (MacKintosh) Rattray.

Marjory leaves behind her daughter, Lisa Ley (Jim), and her grandchildren, Ian and Alexis.

For many years Marjory worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Perth, a friendly face to the patrons. Following her time with the bank, she entered the public library system, leaving her mark on the community through literacy programs at the Plaster Rock library. She moved to Fredericton to be closer to her daughter, where she began work at RMH, meeting long-time friends and enjoying her time - making many memories which she reflected upon fondly. Following the closure of RMH, she worked at Generations Ladies Wear where she later retired from.

Marjory was always an active member of the community, often participating in activities at her church. Some of her favourite things were reading and watching British TV shows. She also loved to bake, making her famous fudge - good enough you could eat a whole plate. She loved making pickles each fall and later in life had many good laughs making salsa with her grandson. She always looked forward to spending time with family and friends, making time for them every chance she could. Through her own special way of sharing her knowledge and life experiences, Marjory touched many lives everywhere she went.

She loved animals and is deeply missed by her grand-puppies, Doc and Gronk, as well as her great grand-puppy, Charles (who were all rescues). She loved her family very much and she was beyond proud of her grandchildren, Ian and Alexis. She was affectionately referred to by family as g-ma (or gg-ma in Charles’ case).

A sincere thank you to the nurses in the DECH ER and especially to those nurses who cared for mom on 4 SW. She spoke very highly of them, and we are greatly appreciative of Nurse Tracy - a true Angel on earth.

There will no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Sts. John and Paul Catholic Church, 727 New Maryland Hwy., on Saturday, January 6, 2023 at 10:00 am with Fr. Suresh as celebrant. Interment will take place in Perth, NB, at a later time. For those who wish, donations in Marjory’s memory may be made to the Oromocto SPCA, CARMA cat rescue or DunRoamin' Stray and Rescue.
