Obituary of Laura Lockwood
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Laura Lockwood, born in Pembroke, Ontario, passed away suddenly on December 31 at the age of 60.
In life, Laura was everybody's friend, no one stayed a stranger for very long around her. As soon as she met someone, there were introductions and within a few minutes there was laughing and likely discussion about common people they knew. Laura’s laugh was infectious and contagious, if you didn’t feel like laughing you usually would start when she did. Laura loved community and she loved helping people. For years, she worked at the YMCA helping clients find employment and was an excellent facilitator. Following her departure from the Y, she worked as the administrative assistant for Toes R’ Us for many years.
She loved beachcombing looking for sea-glass with her late wife Diane, who she was devoted to, during their many trips to New River Beach or Amelia Island. She also loved their quiet summer moments on the northside, sitting at the park taking in the sun getting their very famous sun tans. Laura loved cooking. She loved tastes and smells and enjoyed eating with others discussing all the herbs and spices she used in her dishes, including the gluten free recipes that she needed. She loved her stuffies, naming most of them. Laura also loved a good party with music, Tina Turner, Madonna, and a breakout dance during the party usually happened with her. Laura will be dearly missed by her many wonderful friends, colleagues and family.
Laura will be greatly missed by her sister, Sandra Lockwood-Fraser; niece, Johanne Sutherland (Frank); nephew, Dean Sutherland (Sherry); great nephews, Sam and Alex Bussiere, as well as Aidan and Liam Sutherland, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Laura was predeceased by her mother, Margaret “Marg” (Monteith) Lockwood, and her father, David Lockwood.
Laura recently lost her loving wife, Diane Castle, who she cherished more than life. Now they can be together again and continue the love story that was their life.
A celebration of life for both Laura and Diane will be held at a later date. For those of you who wish to make a donation in her memory, please consider Hospice House or a charity of your choice.
