Obituary of Aubrey Hugh Freeman
It is with sadness that the family of Hugh Freeman announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday December 9, 2020 at Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick. Born in Middleton Nova Scotia in 1939, his family hailed from Paradise Nova Scotia. He is predeceased by his parents Hardy and Mary(Hamilton) Freeman and his siblings Jesse and David.
He is survived by his sister Barbara Black and and by his former wives Jane Mullin in Oromocto, NB and Rita Lamontagne MacDonald in Mahone Bay, NS, and his children: Janette in Calgary AB, Mike (Shawna) in Kingsclear NB, Joan (Jed) in Toronto ON, Shana Dean (Christopher) in Oromocto NB and Shawna Freeman in Calgary AB, and by his grandchildren Josef Vavra in Montreal QC, Colin Freeman in Stauffer AB, Morgan Freeman in Moncton NB, Thomas Freeman in Moncton NB, Rachel and Grace Doherty in Kingsclear NB, Emerson Simmonds in Toronto ON, Drew Walsh in Halifax, NS, Anastasia and Bella Donaldson in Calgary AB and Cayden and Savannah Normand in Oromocto NB.
He entered the military in 1955 at age 16 as a soldier apprentice in the Royal Canadian Corp of Signals, then senior officer training at Fort Frontenac led to work in Kingston, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal in the ‘76 Olympics security, Holland with the CRSG at AFCENT and some time with NATO in Egypt. He ended his career as the Base Administration Officer in Cornwallis a Lieutenant colonel after 35 years of service. VELOX, VERSITUS, VIGILANS
After a distinguished military career he took up woodworking, basket making and maple syrup farming. He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed building furniture, post and beam houses and general contracting. An avid cook, gardener and mushroom hunter, he loved fishing, hiking, hunting and his dogs. Great times were spent in the wilds of Labrador, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, as well as over a coffee with friends, he was a champion breeze shooter with a great sense of humour.
