With great sadness we announce the death of Gordon McLeod.  Gordon passed away on February 11, 2024 at Frederick Hall, Fredericton, after a short battle with Lung Cancer.  Gordon was born in Saint John, NB, the youngest son of the late Reuben and Lulu (Brown) McLeod.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne, sister-in-law, Bobbie Embleton, as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Bentley and Roland as well as two sisters, Otis Setley and Isobel Wallace.

Gordon was a graduate of Rothesay Collegiate and attended Mount Allison University. He left University to help in his father's general store after his father's heart attack.  He ventured into politics and was elected to the Saint John County Council. He was appointed Chair of the original Fundy Trail Committee. In October of 1962, Gordon went to a political meeting in Moncton, were he met Joanne MacArthur, a law student from Fredericton. They were married in June of 1963 and Gordon said it changed his life for the better. In 1965 he sold the St. Martins store, moved to Fredericton and worked in the grocery business there for 6 years before joining the Civil Service. He became Director of Purchasing in the Dept. of Supply and Services. He was on the Board of Directors of the International Purchasing Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Committee for the implication of the Metric system in Canada. He transferred to the Dept. of the Environment as Director of Administration. He worked there until retirement. Gordon was an avid golfer who served on the Board of Directors of the Fredericton Golf Club, and was Director of Golf for several years. He was a Mason, a member of the Masonic Lodge in St.  Martins and served as Master. Many thanks go out to Dr.  Ugrin, the nursing staff and the care givers at Frederick Hall for the excellent care Gordon received. They made his final days comfortable.
