Obituary of Robert "Bob" Lawson Simmonds

Robert Lawson Simmonds died peacefully on February 15, 2024, at St Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, from a stroke which followed a cardiac procedure. He was 87.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ogilvie; six children, Paul (Linda Mayhew), Michael (Steve Wilson), Kelli (Jamie Eddy), Tara (Clark Richards) , Andrea (Dinesh Samarasekera), and Faye ( Derrick Zamzow); 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Bill (Kathy). He was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Edna (Burns) Simmonds; his brothers Geoffrey, Clifford and Alan, and by his first wife Pauline (Perry).

Bob grew up in Chatham, NB, and went to UNB where he graduated in electrical engineering. He worked in Quebec and Ontario before returning to New Brunswick where he worked at NB Power, the provincial government and the Council of Maritime Premiers.

He was an avid bridge player and several times represented the Maritimes at North American tournaments. He also travelled widely.

Bob's greatest joy, though, came from bragging about the accomplishments of all his children.

The family appreciates the level of care provided by all the staff at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.

There will be no visitation or funeral. The family will gather in the summer to celebrate his life.
