Obituary of John Leonard Menzies

We, the family of John "Jack" Leonard Menzies, 81, of Rusagonis, NB, are saddened and heartbroken to announce his passing on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Hospice House, Fredericton, surrounded by his loving family after a long but courageous battle with cancer.

Born November 15, 1942 to the late Robert Eastcott and Dorothy Eastcott (Urquhart), dad was the first of their 10 children.

Dad had an adventurous 81 years of life and was a very hard worker. He wore many hats, from roofing with C.F. Cox, to working for C.L. Stonehouse Ltd in Debert, NS. Dad was a truck driver for 54 years, making contacts and many friends over the years; the best trucking partnership was in 1999 when he and Joanne purchased their own truck and became team drivers for various companies both in Canada and the USA. Dad always enjoyed sharing their trucking adventures with everyone.

Dad and Joanne, their children and grandchildren would travel to the Caribbean for spring vacations.  These memories will forever live on with us.

John is survived by his loving wife Joanne (Porter) Menzies; their children, Dorothy Menzies-Mingo (James), Joe "John" Delorey (Valerie), Terran Pitre (Tim), Kevin Menzies (Vicki) and Tammy Cameron; grandchildren, Josh (Brittany), Sevanna (Charles), Kenneth, Matthew, Nathan and Chase, and his great-granddaughter Charlotte, who he loved more than one could imagine. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters,  Ronald Eastcott (Helen), Vivian Turner, Debbie Buchanan, Ian Menzies, Marilyn Dykens, Norman Eastcott (Marcia), and David Eastcott.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Gail Menzies and Dawn Metlin.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Hospice House for their exceptional care of our dad during this journey. The staff of the Extra Mural-Oromocto Unit, the Lions Club (Fredericton) and the many friends, family and neighbors who have dropped by to show their concern and support.  We are thankful for the support and love of all our friends and family during this most difficult time. Special thanks to the morning coffee crew at Sun’s Convenience Store for seeing that Dad was out and about for as long as he could to enjoy their morning coffee.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdams Funeral Home. As per Dad’s request there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held on April 20th 2pm-4pm at the Rusagonis Baptist Church, 4 Whittaker Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jack to Hospice House in Fredericton by following the link https://hospicefredericton.ca/donate/
