Mrs Phillips was one of the many New Maryland mothers that raised me in our little community, years ago. Mother (Maxine) would call around after dark wondering who fed me and was planning to allow me to stay overnite and many, many times it was Norma (and Fred). In addition they both carted me to the hospital at least once when I needed multiple stitches, which was quite often. Fred made sure the bleeding was "controlled" first so we didn't make a mess in the "New Yorker". There was no better person I ever knew in my life. She looked after her family and everyone else's with whatever was needed at the time. There were many homes in New Maryland that were safe places to land. As kids Hal and I didn't hesitate to go to someone's house knowing it was just like home. More often than not we were headed for Mrs. Phillips' house God bless her and her family.

Our deepest sympathy to Fred and the entire family. Norma was our neighbour at the Seniors Apartments on Reynolds Street and we came to know her as a truly wonderful, talented, and generous person who touched the lives of so many people. Among many other things, we remember what a marvelous cook she was and miss her magical Melting Moments cookies. She will be dearly missed by us and everyone else who knew her. I have many great memories of Aunt Norma. One, in particular, is .being in the back of a station wagon with 400 other cousins going down the old dirt road from Grammy's, choking to death on the dust, for a visit at 'Norma and Fred's' place. I don't know why that particular memory sticks out but.....it's clear as day. Aunt Norma was always cooking up something (food or mischief)......she was always loving. Aunt Norma painted a sap can for me as a birthday gift in 2001. It's a winter scene of a sugar camp and kids pulling a sled. It sits by my wood stove and I cherish it.........as I cherish my memories of Norma and all the wonderful times growing up as part of such a family dynamic as ours. Good times. Better times.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 1 Timothy 6:12 At their cottage over many summer, Fred and Norma were faithful and graced us at Harvey Baptist with their presence in Sunday worship. Due to congregational age the church is now closed but this photo portrays row 7 or 8, occupied by Norma and Fred and their fellowship with us. Yes Norma, you have kept the faith... you have fought the good fight. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Mat. 5:8
