Obituary of Marilyn Louise Archibald

Marilyn Louise Archibald (Pickard), born on December 2, 1942, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was the beloved daughter of Louise Tims (Ketch, Pickard) and Clarence “Honey” Pickard.

Marilyn never had the chance to know her father as he was tragically killed in action during World War II. His memory lived on through stories shared by her mother, Louise, as well as other family members and friends.

Besides her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by her devoted husband of 55 years, John Archibald, as well as her stepfather Lewis Tims, and her stepsiblings.

She is survived by her two sons, Douglas Archibald (Wendy) and Scott Archibald (Cheryl). Marilyn’s heart swelled with pride for her four grandchildren: Allison Muise (Julien), Adam Archibald (Katie), Brooke Archibald, and Emma Archibald. Her joy extended to her two great-grandchildren, Maiya Muise and Sawyer Noonan. Additionally, she leaves behind three sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews who all held a special place in her heart.

Marilyn graduated from Fredericton High School and attended the University of New Brunswick where she met her husband to be, John. As a stay-at-home mom during her sons’ formative years, she dedicated her love and guidance into shaping their lives.

Later, Marilyn both worked and engaged in community service. For nearly eighteen years, she was employed at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, in a variety of positions including co-manager of the Chalmers Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop.  Marilyn also served on the board for Transition House for Women and was involved in fundraising for Ducks Unlimited.

Beyond her professional and volunteering endeavors, Marilyn found joy in simple pleasures.

As a past member of the Capital Winter Curling Club, Marilyn’s enjoyment of the sport endured throughout her life. Even in her final days she continued to watch the sport with enthusiasm.

Summers were synonymous with time spent at the family cottage on Maquapit Lake. The laughter, shared stories, and friendships forged during those warm days created lasting memories.

One of Marilyn’s favourite past times was playing bridge and spending time with the bridge club girls. These moments were cherished and the friendships and time spent brought her a great deal of happiness.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital who provided exceptional care to Marilyn. Their dedication and compassion made a difference during her time there.

Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 3, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. A memorial service will take place at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:00 am with Fr. John Jennings officiating.
