Obituary of Peter John Waterhouse

With sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Peter John Waterhouse at Hospice House, Fredericton, New Brunswick, on April 5, 2024. Born on October 31, 1934, in Dewsbury, England, he was the son of the late Peter and Eva (Denton) Waterhouse.

In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife and partner for over 60 years, Joyce (Butterill) Waterhouse, and his youngest son, John Waterhouse.

Peter will be missed by his son, Roger Waterhouse (Chrystyna) and their children, Meghan, Wesley, and Spencer; daughter, Susan Savoie (André) and their children, Amanda, Adam, and Eric; son, Andrew Waterhouse (Marjorie) and their children, Matthew, Luke, Macey, and Travis; daughter-in-law, Janet Waterhouse (John, deceased) and their children, Chris and Emily; great grandson, Noah; brother, David, sister Judith, and brother Michael (Beverly), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Peter met Joyce when they were teenagers and they married in 1956 as soon as he finished his compulsory military service. In 1968 they moved their young family from England to Fredericton where Peter worked as a mechanical design engineer at RPC for many years.

Peter was a lifelong musician. He was an accomplished organist and played at many churches in Fredericton over the years. His dedication to the music community was shown by his consistent attendance to Thursday night choir practice, participation in many organ recitals, and sharing his love of music with many piano students.

Peter loved to travel from a young age, and even cycled to France by himself twice as a teenager. Joyce shared his love of adventure and they travelled together whenever they could. Once retired they would be gone for months, crisscrossing North America with their trailer and their two large dogs – they had the time of their lives.

We are grateful for the care Peter received at Saint Anne’s Court and Windsor Court during his last years. We will forever be appreciative to the caregiving team at the Hospice House for taking such good care of him and our family during his final days.

A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A memorial service will take place at Christ Church Cathedral on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm. For those unable to attend the service, a live stream will be available at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/@christchurchcathedralfton Interment will be at the Seymour Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Donations to Fredericton Hospice in Peter's name would be appreciated by the family.
