Obituary of Barbara Ann Bird

It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Ann Bird announce her passing on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Nashwaak Villa, Stanley. New Brunswick.  She was born on January 8, 1930 and was the daughter of the late William and Sarah Barrett and wife of the late Leonard Norman Bird.

Barbara is survived by the three “DBs”, Danny (Helen), Douglas (Theresa) and Derrick; her sisters, Deanie Dewar and Joyce Matthews; brother, Stanley; grandchildren, Andrew Bird (Lori), Krista Bird, Sarah Bird (Cameron), Katie King (Mike), Meagan McCann (Kenny), Shannon Bird (Alex), Laura Bird (Mark); 11 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, William Barrett and sisters Marjorie McAllister and Josephine Gillies.

Mom had a few jobs over her life but her biggest job was raising her three rambunctious boys. Mom was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for over 65 years.  She loved playing bingo and bowling, and baking her famous brown bread and cookies, and knitting socks, mitts and hats for anyone that wanted one.  Above all, Mom loved spending time with her family, including her siblings, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved playing Newfoundland Bingo at the Maple Grove Hilton where she always seemed to win.

A special thank you to the staff of the Nashwaak Villa Nursing Home for treating Mom with such kindness and friendship during her time there.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church. The Ladies Auxiliary will do a Tribute at 11:00 followed by the service. Interment will take place at the Field of Honour in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in Barbara’s memory can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4 in Fredericton, Nashwaak Villa Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
