Obituary of "Peggy" Helen Margaret Kileel

With heavy hearts, we say farewell to our beloved mother, Peggy, who left this world peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at the proud age of 94.5 years. She was a beacon of light, grace and love, whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Born in Sturgeon, PEI to Jack Lavers and Bessie Collins, she was the 4th child in a family of 6 children and the last surviving member of her immediate family. At the young age of 15 years, Peggy left her beloved island and came to Fredericton to help her older sisters with their children. She eventually became a dental assistant where she met her future husband, David Kileel Sr., who was a patient. They were married in 1950 and started their family.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother "Siti", who poured her heart and soul into nurturing her children and grandchildren, offering unconditional love, support and guidance through life's triumphs and challenges.

Beyond her role as mother, Peggy was a cherished friend and compassionate confidante, who touched the lives of many with her gentle spirit and genuine kindness. She was a consummate hostess, who loved to cook and have family and friends around her dinner table where there was always lots of chatter, often highlighted by Peggy’s quick wit and humour.

Peggy is survived by her children, Shirley, John (Dianne), Nancy McIntosh, Michael, and David Jr. (Cathy); nine grandchildren, Justin and Matthew (Micaela), Kate (Peter) and Emma, Joseph (Angela) and Christopher, Jami-Lee (Koady), Adam (Julia) and Maggi; and seven great grandchildren, Max and Teddy, Jace, Beau and Crew, Monica and Maria, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Dave Sr.; daughters, Mary Lou and Judy Lynn; son-in-law, Ian McIntosh, and daughter-in-law, Victoria Scott.

The family would like the thank the wonderful doctors at the Dr. Everett Chalmer’s Hospital , the staff at Extra Mural, her personal caregivers, Greta, Paula, and niece, Cathy, for their tender care and support given to Peggy and her family.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman, let us also celebrate the beautiful life of Peggy Kileel at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Monday, May 6th, 2024 at 1:00 pm. For those unable to attend the mass, a live feed will be available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/4255152

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate any donations be made to the “Kileel Family Fund" held by the Fredericton Community Foundation (https://www.fredfdn.ca/donate) or Diabetes Canada (www.diabetes.ca).
