Obituary of Roland Rioux
It is with sadness that the family of (Joseph) Roland Rioux announce his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on May 21, 2024. He was in his 94th year.
Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, on November 4, 1930, Roland was the youngest child of the late Napoleon and Rebecca (Hachey) Rioux. Predeceased by many brothers and sisters and son-in-law, Larry, he is survived by his wife Connie (Craig), as well as daughter Jacqueline of Fredericton, sons George of St. John’s, NL, and Stephen (Sherry) of Collingwood, ON, as well as step-sons Michael Neales of Ft. McMurray, AB, and William Neales (Marye-jo) of Fredericton. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Melissa, Adam, Jaxon, Simon, and Julian, plus three great grandchildren, Ella, Hully and Willow along with one step-grandson, Michael Jr.
Respected within the construction industry, and by his many clients, Roland was truly dedicated to his chosen profession. Beginning his career in the 1950’s, working along side his brothers in the family run Maritime Bricklayers, he would later own and operate his own construction company until moving to Halifax in the 1980’s. Here, on behalf of the developer J.W. Lindsay Enterprises, he oversaw the construction of the now iconic Purdy's Wharf complex located on the city’s waterfront. He was immensely proud of that achievement.
By request no public funeral service will be held, however, the family would be greatly appreciative of donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or any other charity that is dear to your heart.
