Obituary of Robert "Doug" Simmons
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Douglas Simmons, who peacefully left us on July 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born on September 7, 1941, in Summerside, PEI, Robert lived a full and cherished life of 82 years.
Robert was the beloved husband of the late Anna Rae Simmons, who predeceased him on June 14, 2007, after 40 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Peter (Kathleen) Simmons and Krista (Jason) Urquhart, and a proud grandfather to Kayley Urquhart, Raianna Urquhart, Lile Simmons, and Elizabeth Simmons. Robert is survived by his sister, Clara (late John) Marett. He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Blanche, his brother Elmer (Jenny) Simmons, and his sister Jean (late Wallace) Simmons. He cherished his extended family Ray & Annie, Fred & Arlene, Alan & Eileen, Peter, Nancy and Donnie, Pat & Wayne, Karen & Ed, and his many nieces and nephews
Robert was a well-known figure in the Fredericton region where he spent more than 30 years working at Shoppers Drug Mart in the Fredericton Mall. His dedication and warm presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Robert was not only a dedicated professional but also a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His kindness, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed by many. In his spare time he was a big fan of the UNB Reds and cheered them on at the national championships the past several years.
A visitation in Fredericton, NB, will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The visitation in PEI will take place at the Davison Funeral Home in Kensington on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Davison Chapel on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Gideons International, an organization Robert supported.
