Obituary of Wendela Dawn Brien
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wendela “Wendy” Dawn Trites Waller Brien, announce her passing on August 13, 2024, in Fredericton. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Ellen Scovil Trites Waller and Johannes D. Waller.
Wendy grew up in Fredericton and trained to be a nurse at the Victoria Public Hospital in 1958. She started her nursing practice in Tabasintac, New Brunswick and then enjoyed being an office nurse for several Fredericton Physicians until her three children were born. She was a leader in the Girl Guide organization for several decades and enjoyed the community of female leaders. She was a life long member of the Anglican community and dedicated parishioner of Fredericton’s Christ Church Cathedral. She was involved in the development of the Parish Nursing Program. One of her most enjoyable hobbies was flower arranging, allowing her to create and contribute to the weddings and events of numerous family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon Brien; children, Dr. Susan Brien (Dr. Blaine Hoshizaki), Dr. Heather Orfi (Dr. Jan Orfi) and Jeffery Brien; grandchildren, Thomas Hoshizaki, Johanna Hoshizaki, Isobel Orfi, Alev Orfi, Natassja Brien and Naomi Brien; siblings, Johanna Rugg, Walton Waller (Linda Waller) and Patricia Bell; numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10:00 am with The Very Rev. Geoffrey Hall officiating. Interment will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cathedral Restoration Fund.
