Obituary of Vernon James Ellis
It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon James Ellis, announces his peaceful passing at York Care Centre in Fredericton on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at the age of 80. He was the beloved husband to the love of his life, Shirley Ellis. Vern, known affectionately to family and friends as a man who cared for others, was a cherished husband, father, and grampy, who lived a life brimming with love and laughter.
In addition to his wife, Vern leaves behind his children, Angela Annis (Wayne) and Forbie Ellis (Michelle); grandchildren, Alanah Bartlett (Nick), Spencer and Mikayla Annis, Kaleb and Annika Ellis; brothers, Norman (Ginette), Roger (Linda) and Kenny Ellis (Marie); sisters, Elizabeth Daley (Donnie), Laura Dozois (Mike), Brenda Ellis and Edna Good; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Vern was predeceased by his son, Kirk James Ellis; parents, Wesley and Ruby (Beaudin) Ellis; brothers, Raymond and Calvin Ellis; sister, Marion Ellis and one infant brother.
Those who knew Vern best would describe him as a loose cannon with a big heart. Vern was always mischievous and witty, never missing an opportunity to tease and keep everyone guessing what he'd say next. Vern had an innate ability to make everyone around him laugh and enjoyed meeting new people and making friends wherever he went. A man of faith, Vern was baptised and served in the Lincoln Baptist Church for several years. “Soups On” was a weekly outreach that he enjoyed assisting with.
Vern's career journey started in the stock room at Sumners Plumbing in Moncton, where he quickly worked his way up to the position of branch manager in Charlottetown and later in Fredericton where he retired. Throughout his life, his commitment to his family was evident in everything he did.
Vern will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of love, humor, and hard work, will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A memorial service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 1:00 pm officiated by Rev. Greg Geldart. A private interment will take place in the Nasonworth Baptist Church Cemetery.
Vern’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Birch Grove for the compassionate care given to Vern, and more recently the staff of Tower 2, for their care of Vern in his last days. For those who wish, donations in Vern’s memory may be made to York Care Foundation.
