Obituary of Margaret Jean MacDougall
With gratitude for a long and well-lived life, we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret J. MacDougall on October 2, 2024 at the Oromocto Public Hospital.
Born in Hardwicke, NB on June 25, 1926, Margaret was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Alexander MacDougall. The last remaining member of her family, she was predeceased by her three sisters and brother. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and their families.
As an educator, Margaret began her teaching career in Upper Gagetown, moved to Port Elgin, then to the NB Institute of Technology in Moncton. In 1973 she joined the Business Education faculty at UNB, a position she held till she retired.
Upon her retirement she pursued several interests. Her love of history led to her involvement with the School Days Museum as well as her writing two books on business education and the republishing of her father’s book on the history of Black River. Summers spent at her cottage in Miramichi Bay were special, a time to reconnect with her roots, family and friends.
Her steadfast faith was her foundation. As an active member of Forest Hill United Church, she worked tirelessly for the various committees she was called upon to serve. Support of the Missions was a firm commitment throughout her life.
A special thank you to Marilyn Mosher, her caregiver and friend over the past ten years, to Phyllis, her personal hairdresser, to Jennifer, Diane and May for all your visits, and to the medical staff in Oromocto for your care and support these past few weeks.
