Obituary of William Frederick Woods

It is with broken hearts that the family of William (Bill) Woods announces his passing after a sudden brief illness on January 22, 2021, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. He was 90 years young. Born December 8, 1930, in Quebec City, he was the son of the late Joseph Patrick and Mary Cecilia (nee Romans) Woods, Deep Brook, NS. Bill was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee Smith), and greatly loved and adored father of Susan (Scott) Kryski, Regina, SK, and Natasha Woods (Troy Johnston) Oromocto, NB. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandsons Mark (Leah) Kryski, Calgary, AB, and Scottie Kryski, Regina, SK. Bill is survived by his sisters Agnes (late Mike) Owens, Kamloops, BC, Rita (late Carl) Burrell, Kingston, NS, Monica (late Ken) Peach, Kingston, NS; brothers Charlie (late Alvina) Woods, Kentville, NS, Leo (Karen) Woods, Deep Brook, NS, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Barney Woods, Quebec City, QC, Joseph (late Gerda) Woods, Toronto, ON, James Woods, Deep Brook, NS; sisters Alice (late Robert) Fudge, Hammonds Plains, NS, Betty (late Marvin) Mitchell, Deep Brook, NS, and in-laws Ray (late Elaine) Smith, Kinkora, PEI, Justin Smith, Summerside, PEI, and Dorothy (Richard) Strobl, Victoria, BC and Mexico. As a young man, Bill joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as a Navigator / Flying Officer and travelled the world. Following his RCAF career, he had a successful 30 year career with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), beginning with 17 years in Ottawa in the Architecture Division. He then moved to Regina where he obtained his Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI) designation. Following this, he accepted a promotion to the position of Chief Appraiser of New Brunswick in the CMHC Fredericton office. Upon retiring, Bill spent a few years with New Brunswick Housing, and later with Fredericton Appraisal Associates. Bill was a member of St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church, where he served on various committees and ministries. He was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1942. Bill was athletic and excelled at all sports, and especially enjoyed golf, scoring 3 holes-in-one in his retirement years. He was also a life-long Montreal Canadiens fan. A talented artist, he continually delighted his family with his drawings. He made many friends and touched many lives in the community through his various interests and activities. A true gentleman, Bill will be remembered for his kind and generous heart, integrity, sense of humour, and enormous love for his family. We feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an extraordinary person. He was treasured by his family and will be deeply missed. Due to the current COVID code red regulations, a memorial mass at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church will take place at a later date.
