Obituary of Edith Roberta Rankin
The family is sad to announce the passing of Edith Rankin at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB on October 20, 2024. Born in Upperton, NB, Kings County on June 4, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Edith “Molly” Morrow and wife of the late David M. Rankin.
Edith is survived by her children, David S. Rankin (Iryna Biricheva), Beverly Rankin and Robert Rankin (Tanya); grandchildren, Jennifer Rankin, Laura O’Neill (Shawn) and Luke Rankin (Jessica Bernier); great-grandchildren, Max O’Neill and Emma O’Neill; sisters, Maple Shwetz (Bill), Jean MacKenzie (Merle); sisters-in-law, Velda Morrow, Elizabeth King and Cathy White; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Edith was predeceased by sisters, Mary Wilkins, Kathleen Carson, Peggy Gamble, Aileen DuPlessis, Etta Sharpe; brothers, James Morrow and Hugh Morrow; daughter-in-law, Cathy Rankin.
A graduate of the Modern Business College, Fredericton, NB. She worked at Unemployment Insurance and the Bank of Nova Scotia. Edith loved politics and was a councilor for the City of Fredericton and Deputy Mayor. Edith served on many boards and committees through out the city, including the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital Board and the Red Cross. She was a strong supporter of the Fredericton Direct Charge Co-op and served on it’s very first board.
Edith belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi Beta Master Chapter, Fredericton, NB. Edith served on numerous church committees throughout the years.
In Lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the New Brunswick Red Cross or donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.
A private interment will take place on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., at Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredericton, NB
