Dear Yoko and Hiroko,
Barry and I are thinking of you and praying for your peace and comfort from the Lord. It was truly a blessing and a privilege from God that we met the Sawais and shared a very important part of our lives together. Makoto was both a special friend and a father figure to us. He was always loving, welcoming and fun. We miss him greatly, but we know he is happy to be reunited with his loved ones in heaven. We will cherish our precious memories with Makoto and Noriko.

Makoto was a sweet, gentle soul, who remains to this day the only person I know who enthusiastically constructed a beautiful fenced hut for a tiny little rabbit named Pookiii, whom I had chauffeured from Montreal to Fredericton one sunny day in 1992, because my then-spouse Yoko was severely allergic to our pet. Upon arrival, Makoto and wife Noriko immediately made sure Pookiii and I were given a warm welcome, and because Makoto felt that Pookiii was a rabbit of good standing who was most deserving of the best accommodations, it was important that his new home offered the best in all forms of style and comfort. The enclosure was a splendid one, and I am convinced that Makoto's tender ministrations during the Pookiii years in Fredericton were what led to Pookiii having a long, happy life. Farewell, Makoto, thank you for who you were. Please give Noriko a warm hug for us all.
