Sincere condolences to Richard's family. Soon after I came to the University of New Brunswick, I met Richard when I was cross appointed between the Graduate Academic Units of Education and Psychology, and served with him on several graduate students' supervisory committees. I enjoyed working with him. May he rest in peace.

I met Dick close to 50 years ago when I joined UdeM. As everyone who met him I have been impressed with his warmth and friendlyness but also his knowledge and scientific curiosity. I am so sorry that we have lost his presence but never his friendship.

Dick and I started a UNB professorial career at the same time. I was a Forestry professor who had an interest in improving my understanding of myself and other people and becoming a better communicator. I shared this with Dick, probably at the Faculty Club on the top floor of the Old Arts Building where we frequently had lunch. He gave me advice on how to proceed and gifted me with a new psychology text book. He was pleasant, friendly and very generous with his knowledge. I enjoyed knowing him.

Jayne and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Nick's passing. He was such a kind man and was an excellent mentor on my undergraduate thesis at UNB. In fact, he mentored myself and my colleague in the VLT lab and now we both work in pediatric mental health, on the same team. It sounds like he lived a rich life full of love. Wishing you all comfort at this time. - Laura Dooley

Jayne, I was so sorry to learn of Dick's death. It's hard to believe that it was just three months ago at the DECH that we shared a few words and you told us about the pastoral care available. These visits brought Les a great deal of peace. I hope you and Dick were also able to have the same. My sympathy and condolences to you and your family at this loss.

Dr. Nicki supervised my undergraduate honours thesis in 2005-2006. A true behaviourist, he regaled us with stories of the rat lab. Now, a licensed psychologist myself, I rely heavily on the principles I learned from him in my daily work with clients. Thank you, Dr. Nicki, for your mentorship.

I remember with fondness how warmly Dick welcomed me, as a new faculty member, into the SUB Psychology lunchtime group. It was there that we shared stories, events of the day, and resolved all the problems of the department. There were laughs and momentary flashes of insight and inspiration. His passing marks a sad day for Psychology at UNB.

To us Dick was an example of goodness. A loving husband and father, intellectually curious, committed to research, he was devoted to students at every stage of their development. His subtle wit was 'outstanding' even if his culinary appreciation left a bit to be desired. He also mixed a very fine gin and tonic. To Jayne, the children and all who esteemed and loved Dick we express our sadness at his passing and extend our deepest condolences. Requiescat in pace.

Jayne, Andrea, Liz, Geoff and Alex,
I send my heartfelt condolences to all of you.
As my graduate supervisor Dick and I spent countless hours meeting in Keirstead Hall discussing scientific research and direction for my thesis from 1998-2011. Of course, I quickly learned that he and Jayne loved to travel and some of my favorite memories were hearing about their wonderful adventures. He once told me one of the best trips was their trek to Antarctica.
But Dick was much more than an academic supervisor to me. He became a valued colleague and friend helping me navigate various academic and typical life challenges. He was patient, non-judgemental and one of the best humans I have had the privilege to know.
I hope he knows what a difference he made in my life.
Sending love and light.
Laura

Liz and I send sincere condolences to Jayne and all Dick's family. Dick was a longtime good friend and colleague. He and I shared an office at U of T during the graduate years and we both came to UNB in 1967. As colleagues, we worked together on all aspects of academic life, but we also shared many moments for recreation (squash, tennis), travel, the arts, and social life. Dick was always a wonderful friend and a very supportive colleague. We will all miss him but we are fortunate to have many warm, wonderful memories. Rest In peace dear friend.

For a professional boatbuilder the launching of a new boat is a special event. More so when family are able to attend. Dick and Jay travelled to Belfast, Maine to share in these festivities on two occasions. "Ritchie's" sharp wit and sense of humor are forefront in fond and lasting memories. Fair winds and following seas Dick.
