Obituary of Aline E. Meade
A truly great lady of courage and sheer determination has finished her life’s journey with dignity and grace while a resident of Thomas Hall, Shannex-Fredericton. Aline Emelie Meade passed away peacefully on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the age of 77. Born at St. Leonard, NB, she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Rose (Thibodeau) Gagnon and wife of the late Allen Meade.
Aline was Roman Catholic by faith. Her working career began as a waitress, then flourished through 25 years of service with NB Tel. Aline also worked for many years of dedicated service with the NB Compensation Board. Wherever Aline worked she made many lasting and treasured friendships.
Due to a tragic shooting accident at age 20, Aline was left paralyzed from the waist down for the remainder of her days but that did not stop her from achieving and excelling in many areas of her life. Always with her optimistic spirit she went on to take part in Paraplegic Games where she competed in Archery, Javelin, Discus, Indian Clubs, Table Tennis and Basketball. She represented our Province on the National Level and brought home many medals, gold, silver and bronze. This brought her to be inducted into the Oromocto Sports Hall of Fame. She was a proud member of the Lion’s Club and a true Lioness to the core. Aline was an avid Dart Player and a force to be reckoned with when it came to Cribbage. During her leisure times she enjoyed knitting, especially wash cloths, now a treasure to many family members and friends. Her beautiful spirit touched many hearts. She loved playing and calling Bingo at both the Lions Club and the Meade Reunions.
Aline was blessed to have a much loved and devoted daughter, Barbara A. Gagnon-Theriault and her husband Pierre of Hanwell, NB. She was so proud of her grandchildren, Mathieu D. Theriault (Katie) and Karina A. Theriault and her great-grandchildren, Emma C. Theriault and Beau G. Theriault. Aline leaves behind a number of siblings to cherish her memory, Rino Gagnon of Manchester, NH, USA; Normand "Broom" Gagnon (Delores "Del") of St. Leonard; Andrina "Didine" St. Germain (Nelson) of Notre-Dame de Lourdes, NB; Geraldine "Bea" Martin (late Noel) of Portsmouth, NH, USA and Rina Pelletier (Jean Louis) of St. Leonard as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She is also survived by many family members on the Meade side.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Aline was predeceased by a sister Lauraine and a brother Ronald.
