Obituary of Royden William Blizzard

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Royden "Buzz" Blizzard on February 15, 2021, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born on April 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Stephen and Sadie (Fletcher) Blizzard and husband of the late Nancy (Boldon) Blizzard. As a young man, he began his working career at the Hartt Shoe Factory. Before working with the City of Fredericton, he worked with Seaboard Surveys where he travelled the province. Towards the end of his 17 year career as a Water Technician with the City, he and his wife Nancy moved out to Yoho Lake where they had had a cottage. He resided there until last year when he moved into Brunswick Hall in the Shannex complex. Buzz loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, walking, and biking. He especially loved to walk "across the road" from his home at Yoho. He enjoyed volunteering at the soup kitchen and activities with friends at the Stepping Stone Center and also attended Christ Church (Parish) Church. Buzz took great pride in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He said once that he kept a list with all their names on it so he would not forget any of them when he prayed for each one of them every day. Buzz is survived by his daughters Mary Ellen Brunsdon (Blake), Karen Howard (Stephen), Sarah Ferguson (Martin) and Georgina Ferguson; son Mike Blizzard (Justine); 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister Bonny Worthen; sister-in-law Goldie Blizzard, as well as many extended family members. In addition to his parents, Buzz was predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy Georgina (Boldon) Blizzard in January, 1996, after 42 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by son-in-law Michael Ferguson; brothers Edward and Gerald, and also his sister Jackie Munn. We would like to thank all of his excellent caregivers at Brunswick Hall, Shannex, as well as Dr. Georgia Ballem and the staff on 4SE at the DECH for their care and compassion extended to Buzz and family members There will be no visitation. A family service and interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, donations in Buzz’s memory may be made to the Fredericton Homeless Shelter or a charity of the donor’s choice.
