Obituary of Catherine Anne Wiggs
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Anne Wiggs on April 8, 2021. Born on August 16, 1964, in Edmonton, AB, she was the daughter of the late Alfred James "Jim" and Dorothy Helen (Souther) Wiggs.
Growing up in Fredericton, Cathie participated in competitive figure skating and enjoyed coaching younger skaters. She loved her childhood dog, Tasha the Dachshund - She even tried to name her first daughter Natasha, until her parents intervened! She attended St. Thomas University with her toddler in tow and completed her degree before moving to Saint John.
Cathie was strong, determined, and kind-hearted. She always stood up for those who needed a voice. This is what led her to her career in education. After working as an educational assistant, she realized that she could have a greater impact as a classroom teacher. She returned to university in her 40’s and received her Bachelor of Education. She was an advocate for her students, especially those with learning disabilities. She herself lived with Dyslexia which gave her the insight and understanding to reach the students who were struggling.
She was a fierce supporter of her children, and never missed an activity that they were in. She especially loved cheering at football games that Douglas and Kirbie played.
Catherine is survived by her children, Jaimie, Douglas and Kirbie Spriggs; brother David Wiggs (Keetah); sister Jacie Wiggs (Roger), and nephew Davis Wiggs.
A graveside service will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes Canada, the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or your local animal rescue would be greatly appreciated.
