Obituary of Carol Ann Williams

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Carol Ann Williams of New Maryland, NB on April 20th, 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. A proud Nova Scotian, she was born at home on Bark Street, Pictou, NS, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Elsie (Irving) Ferguson and the beloved wife of Donald Williams for over 54 years. Survived by her loving husband, Donnie; sister, Elaine Bugden of NS; two sons, Jamie Williams (Leslie) of Mazerolle Settlement, NB, and Andy Williams (Lori) of Charters Settlement, NB; grandchildren, Chelsie, Jackson, AJ, and Larry; step grandchildren, Ellie and Kate; AJ’s mom Sandra Howatt and many special nieces and nephews. Carol was a graduate of Pictou Academy in 1963, and continued her education at the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax, NS where she graduated in 1966. Carol furthered her education and made the Dean’s List when she earned her Bachelor of Nursing Degree from UNB in Fredericton, NB in 2000. Carol worked as a Registered Nurse beginning in 1966 in Truro, NS followed by many years at the Halifax Regional Rehabilitation Centre and the Dartmouth General in NS and eventually finishing her career as Nurse Manager of Addiction Services in Fredericton, NB. Following her retirement, she was asked by the UNB Faculty of Nursing to teach a course concerning mental health in the community, she was skeptical when first approached but later indicated that this was a highlight of her career. She was involved in many activities both before and following retirement. First and foremost she always introduced herself as a "Hooker", of which she would get many strange looks and then go on to explain her passion and talent for rug hooking. She was a member of the Rug Hooking Guild of NS and the Heritage Rug Hooking Guild in Fredericton, NB. She organized and took part in many events that were put on by these organizations, with many rugs being started and finished at workshops and weekend get a ways that she often attended with the good friends she made over the years. She was also a bridge player and often played several times a week following her retirement. She was a member of the Crown Jewels of Canada Society and Co-Queen of her local Chapter, frequently sporting red, purple and white attire that was many times accented with feathers and lots of bling. She had many stories of camping and canoeing over the years with her family and the Down East Coasters Chapter of the NCHA. She was a collector of many things, least of which included bells and bears. Carol was an avid car enthusiasts and attended countless car shows all over the Maritimes with Donnie. Only on rare occasions was only one car brought to the car shows and usually not even the same car every week. She is most remember for sporting around in her 2011 Synergy Green Chevy Camaro and telling stories of her racing people at numerous traffic lights all over town. She was very proud of her two sons and their accomplishments over the years but there was always a special sparkle in her eyes when she, spoke about her grandchildren. She attended many birthday celebrations, school concerts, graduations and sporting events, often bringing treats for the sports teams to enjoy following the games. Carol was a vibrant, enthusiastic and unforgettable person who made friends at every stop along the way. She will be deeply missed by all who crossed her path. Due to COVID-19 a planned visitation will not be held at this time. A Burial Service will be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to the Kidney Foundation that was very near and dear to Carol or a charity of your choice.
