Obituary of Eric Manning Wright
Eric Manning Wright (1933-2021) died in his sleep at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on May 24, 2021, some five months after having a stroke. Predeceased by Elaine Claire (Kelly) Wright (1992) and son-in-law Craig William Cheney (2008), he is survived by daughters Janice Elaine Wright Cheney (Peter) and Joanne Harriet Wright (Donald), by grandchildren Thomas Manning Cheney (Riiko), David Ross Cheney (Kiera), Harriet Grace Wright, and Elaine Frances Wright, and by great-grandchildren Owen Craig Cheney and Willem David Cheney. Children from his first marriage are James Gardner Wright and Patricia Anne Wright.
Born in Wolfville and raised in Middleton, NS, he was the middle sibling of brother Harry Millard Wright and sister Carolyn Jane (Wright) Kavanaugh (2018). Realizing that a career in professional baseball wasn’t in the cards, he studied engineering at Acadia University and Nova Scotia Technical College (1956). After working in Halifax and Montreal, he moved to Fredericton in 1962 where he was an independent contractor before joining his brother in 1972 at Colonial Scientific Ltd., a hospital and medical supply company. In recent years, he enjoyed the comradery of his Enterprise Rent-A-Car "driving buddies" as well as the companionship of Patricia Cochrane, her family, and the Liverpool, NS, community. Family, friends, fly fishing, jazz, books, and baseball were his priorities and passions. He lived, he said, "a fortunate life."
