My deepest sympathy to you all as you mourn Joe's passing. What a loyal and loving nephew and cousin Joe was. He visited Mom so often and gave her such joy, especially in her later years. Joe and I were the same age so we were childhood friends---how I enjoyed those summer visits at the farm with my dear Aunt Mary and Uncle Hubert. During his days in Fredericton we had many happy times and wonderful conversations! Joe was so kind to everyone he met----a beautiful legacy! I know your hearts are breaking and -we am sending much love and sympathy. May you find peace in the days ahead as you share wonderful memories. Aunt Marg and Diane

Joe had great people-skills and collected info about everyone he met and a huge memory block. He had many interest which we explored with weekly chats. He kept the faith in one political party by just having one hearing aid.His Grand Father gave him these rules 'in his formative years. 1.Dress well.2.Share food if offered.3.Keep your eyes and ears open .4 Keep your mouth shut. Ever time I questioned his progress I got the same reply'..3 out of 4 is not that bad!! I WILL MISS HIM!

Deeply sorry for your loss Lorna and other family members. Fredericton will not be the same without Joe there to join me for breakfast at our favourite place. Many a great conversation would begin with Joe saying; You know the way I see it.... Joe was always thoughtful to me and would always connect with me when he was in Vancouver. One of the most notable such occasions was when you (Lorna) and He had just completed a 32 day cruise starting in Rio de Janeiro and ending up in B.C. and we went for brunch at a place on the water in North Vancouver. Great memories I will always cherish. See you on the other side dear cousin.

My condolences to the family on the loss of Mr. Rideout. Altho' I never met Joe, I was deeply touched by his remembrance of my father, Frank Boyer throughout his 4-H days. Dad truly loved teaching 4-H to this wonderful group of young men. My father would be deeply touched by his remembrance of his 4-H leadership skills. I remember him speaking fondly of Joe many times over the years that he was the Ag Rep for this area. May the memories you have shared over the years see you through this difficult time and for many years ahead.

Lorna and the Rideout Family As we well know, Joe was a wonderful person who contributed much to our extended family. Grateful to eat what was offered, interested in our family dynamics, he approached everything with good humour and calm demeanour. We appreciate the picture with his wonderful hat that accompanied Joe on many of his adventures. It was a pleasure to know Joe and we will all miss him. Our sincere condolences to you all. Dear Lorna and the Rideout Family. My sincere condolences and great sadness in reading of Joe's sudden passing. We chatted the day prior; a swim just a few weeks earlier. Joe, we enjoyed some fine outings over the past few years, and plans for others. Alas, i guess it just wasn't meant to be. I shall miss our philosophical debates, shared life's experiences, and the great hospitality at your beautiful Taffy. Farewell Comrade, but never forgotten. RIP

My heartfelt condolences to all especially Lorna, Nancy, Sheryl, David, and families, and all of Joe's siblings, on Joe's passing. Joe was a great uncle who I will always remember fondly. Although our visits were too few and far between as the years went on, I will always cherish, when our paths would cross, our conversations and Joe's wry wit. I enjoyed his remarkable self-written obituary. Love from the Duncan family in Calgary.

Bill Walker posted a condolence
Hello. I was not acquainted with Mr. Rideout, but I wish I had known him. I admire the self-deprecation that he enjoyed in his obituary message, but it's not total; and he lets us know that he was proud of his considerable accomplishments in life. His advice about a young person spending time in Montreal resonated with me; as I did that when I was about 21, and it has been a highlight of learning. I admire his dignified and decent comment about his first wife, and about 'our three children', who came about from that marriage. In the times when Sydney Harris' 'Strictly Personal' column was published in the Telegraph Journal, I read it every day, apparently along with Mr. Rideout. I looked up the designation 'C.D.', and saw that it is Canadian Forces Decoration, given for more than twelve years of service in the Canadian Military. My father had that distinction also, and often signed with it. So, I wish I had known Mr. Rideout; but in a way, I did. Best wishes to all of his treasured family. Bill Walker

We offer our deepest condolences on the loss of your father, partner and brother. I have such fond memories of Joe when I visited the farm. He was always kind and thoughtful and willing to drive me places. I also remember him as a young father when he moved to Fredericton and learned to play the piano. Joe had a genuine love of people, which showed in how he lived his life daily. He loved visiting and helping all those who needed a hand. Dear Lorna and members of the Rideout family, my deepest sympathies on the loss of a fine man. For the past five or six years, we in the Fredericton Prostate Cancer Support Group got to know him as an amiable friend, a dedicated supporter, and a tireless worker in the cause of prostate cancer research. His kindness in helping others was matched only by the strength he showed in confronting his own illness. We all valued him as a colleague and true friend, and we will miss him.
