Obituary of Hilda Leota Nickerson
It is with profound sadness that we the family announces the peaceful passing of Hilda Leota (Hayes) Nickerson in her 100th year on April 18th, 2020 at The Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB. Born in Weymouth, NS, on October 25th, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jenny (Weaver) Hayes and wife of the late Victor Nickerson.
Hilda’s love for her family, church and her community was evident in her commitment to her charities and organizations. She was an honourary member of the ACW and thoroughly enjoyed being part of the church, Pythian Sisters and L.O.B.A. She was the Past Grand Deputy Registrar for the Grand Crystal Chapter of Canada L.O.B.A., an Honourary Member of the Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of New Brunswick L.O.B.A and a Past District Deputy Grand Chief Pythian Sisters #13. Hilda’s ever-present smile, open arms, and genuine interest in what her children and grandchildren were up to made you always feel important.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Hazel Gass (Paul) of McAdam, NB, Leota Weeks (John) of Harvey Station, NB, Earle Nickerson (Heather) of Portage Vale, NB, and Herbert Nickerson (Ruth) of New Salem, NS. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shelley Porelle (Gilles), Cindy Bartlett (Peter), Brenda Moffitt (Kimberly), Karen Oliver (Geoff), Karla Huckvale (Glen), Roy McLaggan (Rose), Cory McLaggan (Trudy), April Hawkins (Chris), Darrel Nickerson (Karen), Kevin Nickerson (Tara), Jennifer Floyd (Jill), James Nickerson (Sabrina), Victor Nickerson and Roger Nickerson; several great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; brothers, Mike Hayes and Ross Hayes (Alma); sisters, Dorothy Robeson, Constance Blinn, Ruth Smith (Bob) and Marion Fowler, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Hilda was predeceased by her parents; husband, Victor; son, Victor; daughters, Ester Nickerson and Nancy McLaggan; grandchildren, Jeffery Nickerson, Michael Weeks and Carl McLaggan; great grandson, Andrew Bartlett ; siblings, David, Helen, Edith, Viola and Jennie
A memorial service will be held at the St. George Anglican Church in McAdam, NB, at a later date. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Peter’s Anglican Church Cemetery in Weymouth, NS.
