Obituary of Calvin MacIntosh
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Calvin MacIntosh of Fredericton, NB on Thursday, July 15, 2021. Calvin was born in Bathurst on August 9, 1954, but spent most of his formative years in Miramichi before moving to Fredericton in 1971.
Above all, Calvin loved his family. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 45 years, Peggy, his son Jamie MacIntosh of Fredericton, NB, his daughter Anna MacIntosh (Lincoln Carnam) of Columbus, Ohio, his grandchildren (whom he absolutely adored) Grant and Reagan Carnam of Columbus, Ohio, brothers-in-law Phil (Pam) Ossinger and Cam (Marilyn) Moffatt as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Calvin was predeceased by his father Walter MacIntosh and his mother Frances (Jamieson) MacIntosh.
As anyone who knew him will attest, Calvin was thoughtful with a unique sense of humor, and loved to tell jokes and stories. In addition to his family and many friends, Calvin also loved the Boston Red Sox, the Toronto Maple Leafs (although they let him down for the past 54 years and are unlikely to win the Stanley Cup next year in his memory), motorcycles, puzzles, books, country music, summer vacations to PEI, and admiring his perfect handwriting (seriously, it was amazing). One of Calvin's fondest memories was coaching youth baseball when his children were young, and he always talked of his time managing the UNB Red Devils hockey team fondly.
After graduating from UNB in 1977, Calvin started his professional career at the Daily Gleaner, first as Comptroller and eventually as Publisher. He then spent 10 years working for the New Brunswick government, before ending his career as CAO of PLC, where he retired in 2019. Calvin was honest, hardworking, and dependable, always a calming voice of reason and sounding board for his many friends and colleagues. He served on numerous boards and committees over the years and was currently an elder at Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
Calvin was a lifelong learner, going back to school while his children were both in university, graduating (again from UNB) with his MBA in 2001. He had hoped to drive across the country with his wife and was looking forward to seeing his grandchildren grow up, but unfortunately his life was cut short before he could do either. We know if he could offer his friends and family one piece of advice it would be to seize the moment and not to wait.
A celebration of life will be held when the COVID pandemic is over and we can all safely hug and tell stories together. In the meantime, we urge you to hug and tell stories with your loved ones (bonus points if those stories are about Calvin or would have made him laugh). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, or a charity of your choice.
