Obituary of Joseph Donald Luc Breton

It is with profound sadness that the family of Joseph Donald Luc Breton announce his passing on September 5th, 2021 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on March 14th, 1962, in Montréal, QC, he was the son of Gilbert and Jeannine Breton and was the loving husband of Jane Moriarty-Breton. Luc was a strong minded man, and had the determination to succeed throughout his life. At the young age of 21, he attended the Atlantic Police Academy in PEI to pursue a career his dear mother had always admired. Sadly, he lost his mother during this time but found the strength and courage to undertake a beautiful life. In 1985, while working for the New Brunswick Highway Patrol in Bathurst, he met his wife, Jane and her sweet son, David. The three became a family and Luc cherished David as his own. Shortly after, they were welcomed in to a family known as the ‘RCMP’. Together, they journeyed to his first posting in London, Ontario. His profession and social life flourished. He played softball and hockey and along with his wife, made good friends and very much appreciated this time of his life. In 1990, he was transferred to Windsor, Ontario for work, where his lovely daughter, Jeannine, was born. Family was always Luc’s first priority, and granted the opportunity to move closer to home, he returned with his young family to New Brunswick. During his career with J Division, he worked in progressively responsible roles within the areas of Drug Awareness/Drug Enforcement as well as Protection, Federal Support Services and Criminal Intelligence where he made a significant impact on the Integrated Intelligence Units. He was the Codiac Officer in Charge of Operations and his last posting was to the role of the West District Commander. Also notable is his service during a United National Peacekeeping mission in Africa as well as being Commander of the Tactical Support Group for J Division for several years. Luc also received a number of awards in recognition of his contribution including the Queen’s Jubilee Comm. Medal, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal as well as awards for his years of service with the force. His experiences gave him great perspective and an appreciation for life. Luc was organized, reliable and had the ability to be take control of situations amongst many other skills which made him a wonderful leader, as he met the rank of superintendent towards the end of his nearly 35 year career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and 39 years of Policing. Luc planned on hanging up his Uniform on October 19th, 2021. When Luc wasn’t working, he was busy being an amazing husband, father and Grand Father. He also could be found learning new hobbies such as playing guitar, which he picked up in his 40’s, or, sitting at his bar that he was so proud of. He also loved fishing from the Restigouche River in the Summer, skidooing in the Winter, and being handy any time of the year. Luc was a dedicated family man, and due to being such a thoughtful, knowledgeable, meticulous and incredibly talented man, he never ran out of projects. Whether it be building decks, renovating his daughter’s entire house, guiding and teaching his son or helping out his brothers, in-laws and friends with their construction jobs, he always had something on the go. His most recent project was building a dream home on the Grand Lake. Had Luc lived longer, he was prepared to start up a company and name it "L.B Construction". Luc’s qualities truly highlighted his life. Luc had a way of capturing his audience's attention, and along with his humor he had an amazing ability to tell stories and make people laugh. It is to note, that Luc had great dance moves and if you never saw him when a good song came, you missed out. He knew how to have a good time. But most of all, Luc will be remembered as being a go-to person for so many. He provided answers, solutions, suggestions and comfort and his presence will forever be deeply missed. Luc will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Jane Breton; children, David Breton (Faith Flanagan) and Jeannine Breton (Patrick Downe); grandchildren, Matthew, Fynn and Dean Breton; siblings, Gilbert Breton (Amélie Gallant), Yves Breton (Ginette) and Manon Cormier (Francois); in-laws, Claudia Jones (Michael), Donald Moriarty (Linda), Dean Moriarty (Tanya); nieces and nephews, Mélissa Roy, Sébastien Roy, Blaine Hall, Amber Hill, Melissa Roy, Élodie Breton, Kathleen Moriarty, Myriam Breton, Gregory Cashol, Evan Connors, Alyson Moriarty, Marie-Hélène Cormier, Nathan Steele, Francis Cormier, Peris Jones, Frédéric Cormier, Sierra Jones, Emma Moriarty, Gabriel Cormier, Lily Moriarty; and incredible friends. Luc is predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and Jeannine Breton, and his youngest brother Jean-Marc Breton. The family wish to extend their thanks to Chantal & Allen Farrah, Deborah & Roger Brown, Pamela & Richard Noble, Natalie & Brian Barry, and countless others. A visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Thursday, September 9th, 2021, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Sainte-Anne-des-Pays-Bas Catholic Church on Friday, September 10th, 2021 at 2:00pm.
