Obituary of Arnold Theodore Wesley Bovingdon

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ted Bovingdon husband of Zona Bovingdon, sadly announce his death at the DECH on Monday, April 20, 2020, after a relatively short, but fierce battle with dementia. Born, Arnold Theodore Wesley Bovingdon, March 17, 1942 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He was the son of the late Arnold and Leone Bovingdon. After finishing high school in the "Soo" and some University in Montreal, Ted move to Fredericton to attend UNB, where he met and married Zona, and began his family. Eventually finishing his Bachelor of Phys. Ed Degree. If "Not for Profit" was a career choice, Ted definitely chose that path. Starting with lifeguarding, and coaching swimming and gymnastics at YMCA’s in Ontario. Then as Executive Director for the Monsignor Boyd Family Centre in Fredericton, the YMCA in Dartmouth, New Directions in Saint John, and finishing out his career at NB Community Residences in Fredericton. He also served on many volunteer boards throughout his career. After retirement Ted and Zona fulfilled their lifelong dream of being "snowbirds", spending thirteen winters in Florida and summers back home in Fredericton, until health issues prevented travel. Ted also enjoyed spending time singing with the Stepping Stone Senior Center. Ted was survived by his wife of 56 years Zona. Children, Tod Bovingdon (Dawn), Carrie Hughes, Tara Steeves (Jason), Mary-lyn Fowler (Dan), and Tim Bovingdon (Jocelyn). Grandchildren, Meaghan, Chrystal, Craig, Alex, Madie, Max, Jenna, Rivers, Reece, Evan, Mitchell, Zachery, Jack, Hunter, Allyson, DeLaney, Brooklyn.Great Grandchildren, Daivia, Deagan, Dalton, Asher, Olivia, Weston, and Juniper. His siblings in Ontario, Lynn, Birdie(d) Cindy, and Dennis. Zona’s siblings, Cyril (Suann), Sharon (Rick), Zeta(d) (Fred), Tony(d) (Freda), Harold (Dawn) Dorothy, Carolyn (Herb) and Robert. As well as many nieces, nephews. Lovingly remembered as Ted, Dad and Pop. A memorial service and interment at the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery, will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Stepping Stone Senior Centre, or a charity of choice.
