Obituary of Pamela Skinner
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Pamela "Pam" (Rollinson) Skinner on October 26, 2021, at Hospice House Fredericton. Born on November 6, 1947, in Leeds, England, Pam was the daughter of the late Jack and Evelyn (Hinchcliffe) Rollinson and beloved wife of Stephen Skinner.
Pam studied childcare in Leeds, England, at Thomas Danby College. Her career in childcare continued when, in 1981, Pam and Stephen immigrated to Canada, where she taught preschool at the YMCA for a number of years. After teaching preschool, she moved into the school system as a Teacher’s Assistant, working at Montgomery Street School before moving on to George Street Middle School, where she stayed and worked for 20 years as a T.A.. Pam retired in 2013, but retirement did not stop her from being busy. Pam always sewed, even while she worked in school she operated a small business, Poppits, making children’s clothing for sale at craft shows and the Boyce Farmers Market. She was proud to be a juried member of the New Brunswick Craft Council. In later years there were always sewing projects on the go for family and friends, and those projects increased after her retirement. Everything she made had her individual touch and showed the talent she had in her craft.
"A true Yorkshire lass", she was quick witted and straight forward. She treasured her grand kids and was so proud of her boys. There were many special friendships over the years and personal attachments that will be sorely missed. Her enthusiasm in recent years for Pickleball was infectious and provided a wonderful outlet for recreation and friendships.
She is survived by her spouse Stephen Skinner of Fredericton; sons Julian Skinner of California and Dylan Skinner (Lana) of Fredericton; grandchildren Samuel, Adam, Sophie, Madilyn and Isabel; brother Paul Rollinson (Susan) of Leeds; brother-in-law Nigel Skinner (Krista) of Fredericton, as well as several extended family members.
A special thank you to the nurses at the Dr. Everett Chalmers 4NW for all of their care and dedication throughout Pam’s stay. And thank you to the Hospice staff for making Pam comfortable during her short stay.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. A burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House or a charity of the donor’s choice.
