Sorry to hear of Alan's passing. I got to know him while I was in the military at Chatham NB. He was a great guy who loved the game of curling as a player and organizer! His work as a volunteer was most most appreciated not only in New Brunswick but throughout Canada. My condolences to the Garcelon family. I was fortunate to know and appreciate Alan and the work he did for curling in New Brunswick. I came down from Ontario several times to help out at summer camps and weekend clinics. Alan was always the key organizer in those events. His work and expertise were exceptional. My thoughts are with you all. It is never easy to say good-bye. Jim Waite, National Coach, Curling Canada

Our thoughts are with you today as we lament the loss of your father & grandfather and our good friend and we offer gratitude for his well-lived life. Alan was most proud of his family and always eager to share family news. Ever an organized person, his Christmas card was always the first to arrive in our mailbox. We worked together for many years and shared both joys and sorrows. He will always be fondly remembered. May your memories bring peace to you today and in the days to come. Suzanne and Rick

Dear David, Michael and Family, It was with sadness that I read Alan's obituary in this morning's paper. My last memories of your father come from his time at Shannex. My mother entered Shannex in 2016 and one of the first people to greet her was Alan. I often visited mom at Shannex and, invariably, we encountered Alan in the dining room. He always made the effort to come over to say hello. He always called my mother Mrs. Skillen. She liked that. My first memory of your dad dates back to 1978, when I was a summer student working at the Sport Branch and he had just joined the department. I next encountered Alan in the early 1980s when I was a volunteer with Volleyball New Brunswick and, for several years, looked to your father for help with our various administrative needs. I then had the good fortune of joining the Sport Branch in 1984 and Alan became my colleague for six years as we shared many experiences including three Canada Games. I will always remember your dad from our last Games together in 1989. On the day that we were to head home from Saskatoon, I heard a knock on my hotel room door and it was Alan at the door with news that my father had died the evening before back in New Brunswick. I can remember his warm embrace and the concern and care he showed for me in that moment. Your father was a fine human being who touched many lives and contributed to the sporting world in New Brunswick and beyond. He was also a proud father and grandfather. He often spoke to me, mom and Gisele about you and your families. I know you will miss him. So will we. Please accept my sympathies and those of my wife, Gisele. Bob

David and Michael our sympathies to you and all your family. I worked with Alan in Sport and Recreation and we shared our interest in St. Stephen when I worked in the Regional Office then when I joined the staff in Fredericton. He was a generous man and his attention to detail was a gift I most admired about Alan. He was so proud of both of you and your families. I remember visiting with him at your home in Kananaskis when he lived with you David and your family and was thrilled to follow your children in their swimming lessons. He will be missed but will always be in your hearts. All the best, Suzanne

Hi all, I am David's father in law through his wife Kylie, my daughter. My wife Elaine and I visited the Maritime coast of Canada a few years ago and shared a holiday with the family there including Alan. As visitors from down under, we yarned with Alan and picked up a lot from him about the society there, his life in Canada, his devotion to his community and how he loved his sport. I remember we shared a couple of beers together, and he helped me understand the significance of being Canadian. He showed me that our two countries have much in common. Rest well Alan.
