Obituary of Watfa El-Khoury

It is with sadness that the family of Watfa El-Khoury announces her death at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021 at the age of 92. Born in Niha, Lebanon, on December 2nd, 1928, she was the wife of the late Youssef El-Khoury of Fredericton NB. She passed just short of celebrating her 93rd birthday the next day. Watfa’s family will forever honour the woman they loved and respected so much. Watfa leaves behind her sons, Wady, Albert (Lucie), Gabriel (Rita) and Pierre El-Khoury, all of Fredericton NB; Daughters, Salem Tibbet (Fred) of Toronto ON, Charlotte Debly and Yvonne Fahd of Ottawa ON; Grandchildren Marie-Josée McGraw, Youssef, Daniel (Tiffany), André and Nadia El-Khoury, Justin Weir, Jason (Megan), Sandra, Michael and Alexa El-Khoury, Julianna and Diane Tibbet (Jorge Orozco), Karam Debly (Laura), Sheila Magnus (Matthew), Chantal and John Fahd (Bethany); Great-Grandchildren, Rafaelle and Emmanuel McGraw, Zoe, Mila, Jonathan and Sophia El-Khoury, Jonathan Tibbet, Francis, Louis and Helena Debly, Tyler and Austin Magnus, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Watfa also leaves behind her siblings; Percy, Tom, Albert, Abe, Charlie and Sabina Khoury. In addition, Watfa was predeceased by her parents Salim and Houla Khoury, her siblings Sally Delmas, Joseph and Mary Khoury and her son-in-law Louis Debly. Watfa immigrated to Guadeloupe in 1955 where she lived for 12 Years. She had left Lebanon to join her husband and brought her first three children with her. In 1967, the family immigrated a second time to Canada to provide a better future and lifestyle for her family. Watfa’s family was everything to her. She was a devoted wife and mother who cared for her children and many of her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sense of humour, her hard work and sacrifices for her family. Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St., on Saturday December 4th from 4 to 7 pm. Parish prayers will begin at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Charbel’s Maronite Catholic Church, 299 Argyle St., on Sunday December 5th at 3 pm. Msgr. Elie Zouein will be celebrant. Interment will take place in the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery after the mass.Due to current provincial regulations, proof of vaccination and government issued identification will be required for entry to the visitation and service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Watfa’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, or St. Charbel’s Catholic Church.
